Deborah "Debbie" Escudero (Gross)

Birth Date: 1956-08-10
Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2021-10-09
Obituary:
Deborah “Debbie” Ann Escudero was a caring wife, mother, sister, daughter, cousin and friend. She said goodbye to this world on October 9, 2021, at age 65.
She was born to Robert and Antoinette Gross on August 10, 1956, in the Cleveland, Ohio, area and was sister to Linda and Bobby. She lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, for most of her life.
A graduate of Gerard Catholic High School in Phoenix, Debbie was a great friend and had several friendships that lasted 50+ years. She graduated with a criminal justice degree from Arizona State University. She built a successful decades-long career as a real estate agent selling residential homes in the Valley.
She and her husband Jose supported her son Anthony “Tony” and daughter Nicole “Nicki” Escudero by sending them to Catholic school, cheering them on at sports games, volunteering at school activities and putting them through activities like piano lessons and Tae Kwon Do.
Debbie was known for her enthusiasm and sense of humor, always making those in her company laugh. She enjoyed playing cards with her family. An avid music lover, Debbie’s two favorite songs were “That’s Life,” by Frank Sinatra, and “Smile,” by Charlie Chaplin.
Debbie was a devoted animal lover. She had many small rescue dogs throughout her life, including Canela, Cookie, Candy and Cupcake. Plus, she also took care of turtles, fish, birds and guinea pigs. Debbie frequently volunteered to bring her kids’ class hamster home for the weekends.
Two days before she passed, Debbie sent a photo that said: “I’ve hardly done anything on my Bucket List. Just change the ‘B’ to an ‘F’ and you’ll feel much better about it.” Her sense of humor endures, as she said she’ll come back as a ghost to let you know they’re real.
Debbie’s spirit will live on in her generosity, her love of laughter and her deep love for her family and friends.
There will be a private memorial for Debbie. In lieu of flowers, please consider instead a donation to a cause Debbie cared deeply about: helping pets. Azchihuahuarescue.org

Mark Christopher Lorentz was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1955, in Portland, Oregon, the fourth of five children.
When he was born, his father sent his mother flowers bearing the inscription “Unto us a son is given.” He attended St. Stephen's, and then the Madeleine Grade

Daniel Michael Lucero

Birth Date: 1956-12-17
Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2022-11-03
Obituary:
How do you sum up a life well-lived in a few paragraphs? In the case of Daniel Michael Lucero you start with two words: family man. Dan was born into his first family on December 17, 1956, to parents George Lucero and Claire Almon. He was soon joined by three siblings: David (Jodie), Diane (Steve), and Douglas. Dan grew up in the Phoenix area and made some life-long friends there who became brothers to him and were with him until the end.

After Dan earned a BA in education from Arizona State University (ASU; 1978), he worked first as a teacher and later in retail customer service. It was in Arizona that he met his wife, Beth Bigelow Lucero, and they combined families in 1988. Together they raised two daughters: Sarah (Damon) and Amanda. It

was in this family that Dan proved himself to be ahead of the times; he worked proudly as a stay-at- home father and earned the best job title: Dad.

Of course, even dads need hobbies, and Dan had several: You could always count on him to be cheering for his Sun Devils, whether in person, when the opportunity arose, or from the sofa. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the teams and the players, and his nieces and nephews knew that an ASU-

branded gift was always a safe bet at the holidays. Dan could also be found rooting for the Phoenix Suns, the Kansas City Chiefs, and of course the teams that became his home teams: the Saint Louis Cardinals and the Saint Louis Blues. On the participatory side, Dan was an avid golfer and enjoyed hitting the links with friends and family.

Outside sports, Dan was a lover of music. Over his life, he attended hundreds of concerts, often combining these trips with opportunities to visit friends and family around the country. He was thrilled when the girls became old enough to join him on these adventures, and together they saw many

favorite bands.

Life doesn’t always give you pro-golf tours to attend or Gin Blossoms concerts to revel in though. Dan thrice fought cancer, beating it back twice. On his third round with this horrible disease, Dan put up a hell of a fight, inspiring all around him. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the battle on November 3, 2022, passing peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife, daughters, son-in-law, and the two treasured little boys who promoted him to Pa—Emerson and Grayson. He is also survived by his siblings; his siblings-in-law, Becca (Ian) and Mark (Charlene); cherished nieces and nephews; as well as his aunt and uncle and cousins.

In his many adventures with family and friends, Dan always brought a smile and a kind word. He would offer encouragement even as he was embattled himself. He lived that way to the very end and would be pleased to continue the effort to knock out cancer. Because of this, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you consider a donation to the NFL’s Crucial Catch, which promotes early detection and risk reduction in the fight against cancer: https://www.nfl.com/causes/crucial-catch/.

Marie Neuner (Romano)

Birth Date: 1956-10-19
Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2008-06-30
Obituary:
Marie Neuner Obituary
Marie Romano Neuner died peaceably in her home on Monday, June 30,
2008 in the presence of her husband and daughter. Marie was born on October 19, 1956 in Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated from Gerard High School in 1974. Marie attended
ASU, obtaining a BSN degree in 1978. Marie then worked for several years as an RN at Good Samaritan Hospital. Always seeking new challenges, she returned to ASU where she was awarded an M.S. degree at ASU in Health Services Administration in 1980. For several years she was on the staff of the Arizona Legislature and among her many accomplishments she helped craft the original AHCCCS legislation. After several years, Marie left the Legislature and became a Senior Healthcare consultant at Arthur Anderson. With consulting came out-of-state assignments, something that eventually conflicted with her need to be close to her large family, which all reside in the valley. Looking for a position near her family, in 1989 Marie accepted a position at Banner Health System. Seventeen years ago Marie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS gradually robbed her of her physical strength and mobility, but never her emotional strength. Even during the toughest times she was an inspiration to all who knew her. While her disease allowed, Marie enjoyed many activities including scuba diving, bicycling and hiking. However, spending time with family and friends was her favorite way to enjoy her free time. Four years ago Marie was hit with another challenge when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Marie battled both of these diseases for the coming years, continuing to come to work each day with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. As these diseases continued to progress she eventually became too ill to work. In 2007, she made one of the most difficult decisions in her life, to end her career. Despite almost constant pain and discomfort, Marie was always a joy to be around, even during her most difficult periods. Her constant smile is something that all of us will remember her by. Marie is survived by her husband John Neuner; their daughter Victoria ("Tori"); her parents Richard and Vivian Romano; her sister and her husband Jodi and Russ Bruno; her brother and his wife Rick and Joanne Romano; her brother Mike Romano; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona with a Scripture Service at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Banner Health Hospice.

Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2016-08-04
Obituary:
Heath, JoAnn (nee Scuderi) 59, of Phoenix, passed away on August 4, 2016. I met JoAnn when I was 14 years old and asked her to the sweetheart dance. She wore a yellow flowered dress with bows to match her hair. She was beautiful. By junior year she was my girlfriend. We married at 21 and moved to California for five years. Moving back to Phoenix we started our family and have 4 beautiful, good kids. Life was a whirlwind of family get togethers, kids sports and family vacations, we had a great life. Anyone that knew her also knew that she wasn't the mother of just our kids, but mom to every kid who walked through our door. She loved her children and welcomed their friends, with her generous spirit, into our home as well. There were never too many kids or too much noise as far a she was concerned. We grew up together, she was my best friend, a loving mother, the anchor in our family and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her. JoAnn is survived by her husband Bob, sons Daniel Heath and Ryan Heath, daughters Jenna Pessah and her husband Gabe and Natalie Heath, brother Anthony Scuderi, sisters Nina Sutton and Annette Roberts and her parents Tommy and Mary Scuderi.

Rick Wandrych

Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2024-07-18
Obituary:
Rick Wandrych

I am deeply saddened to share that my dad, Rick Wandrych passed away early Thursday morning on July 18, 2024, peacefully in his sleep. In his last days, he was surrounded by his closest family and friends. I want to remember my dad as the person he was for the majority of his life and mine.
My dad was passionate about experiences. Sometimes he would pause and say, "You know this is a really special moment and moments like this don't happen a lot." He attended over 100 concerts throughout his life, including taking me to my first concert (Coldplay). Some of the notable ones also include Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, and Bruce Springsteen's first ever concert.
He loved going on adventures and traveled throughout the United States and Europe. Two pieces of travel advice he taught me that I practice are 1. Only pack what you're willing to carry and, 2. Eat somewhere different every day and go back to your favorite place on the last day.
My dad was an athlete and avid hiker. All throughout my childhood and early adulthood, he held season tickets for the Diamondbacks and Cardinals; we spent many nights at the stadium, learning his love for the sports. For many years, he would do an annual Grand Canyon "rim to river" hike in a day. Other famous hikes he did were Half Dome, Mt. Whitney, and Diamond Head. In our hikes together, he taught me it was best to "rest not quit" and to bring more water than you think you'll need.
My dad was determined, courageous, and had a unique brand of humor. He could always find something to laugh about, even during the hardest times. He had a big heart and will be deeply missed. Like any life well lived, no written blurb could begin to encapsulate all he was and all he meant to me.
"I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren't trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom."
If you met my dad and would like to share a memory, something you liked about him, or something he taught you please do. A private memorial service will be held in early Fall.
